Allergy Relief

When it’s allergy season, it usually isn’t the pet parent who is getting the brunt end of things. After all, most pet owners don’t keep their noses down at ground level! Pets take in amazing amounts of allergens in the course of a day as they explore their environments, and the ongoing health stress of a continuous allergic reaction can be extremely detrimental.

Fortunately, pet allergy treatment is an emerging field. Pet allergy medications are becoming more common, giving pet parents options whether they have a cat or a dog. Owners have a choice between topical treatments and pills that need to be ingested to reduce their pet’s histamine response and reduce the overall irritation of the allergen.

Symptoms of Allergies

In humans, a runny nose, sneezing, and watery eyes are all classic allergic reactions. With pets, there may still be sneezing, but pet parents should also watch for unexplained itching and scratching, irritated skin, and wheezing.

Dog allergy relief treatment can be more challenging than cat allergy relief treatment, as cats do not push for trips outside in peak pollen season. For this reason, while medicated shampoos may be effective on cats, internally ingested dog allergy medication will be a good choice, especially for outdoor pets. Atopica and Hyroxyzine are both tested and trusted choices for dog allergy treatment.

Rebuilding Treatments

Since cat allergy treatment and dog washes can take their toll on the skin and coat of the pet, it may be wise to simultaneously work to improve skin and coat health even as you fight allergies. DermCaps and 3V Caps for cats and dogs provide Omega 3 boosts that can counteract allergic damage.
